I am back online after Hurricane Rita. We finally got our lights turned on yesterday. All this time we had no lights and since we have a well, no water.
Our house is still standing. The only damage was a tree top that fell on the bedroom roof. It did punch a hole in the roof but not all the way through. Just enough to cause a major leak. The ceiling and bedroom floor will have to be replaced from all the rain that came in.
Another tree fell and took out the well house. But we really needed to build a new one anyway, so that is OK.
For the first few days it was VERY hot - 100 degrees temp. Thank goodness a friend of ours had a generator and we could cool down for a time every day. By the 4th day with no lights we were able to buy a generator. Lowes had a few come in and we were very lucky to be there when they did! That ran our air conditioner, refrigerator and TV. Yeah!!
During this time we have had to go on “scavenger hunts” to find open grocery stores and gas stations with gas. It became a daily hunt for basic supplies. (I had thought I was fairly prepared, but now I know different)
I think what got me through was to look for the good and not dwell on the bad. I have a new appreciation for little things like hot baths, a real dinner instead of just a sandwich, a cold soda and sleeping in your own bed. (until they took the tree off the roof I was afraid to sleep in the bedroom)
Things are finally getting back to normal. Thank Goodness!!
