Toys I have Loved
I got to thinking about some of my favorite toys when I was a girl. So lets take a trip down memory lane to Christmas past…
Most little girls have favorite dolls and mine were Chatty Cathy, Kissy and Betsy Wetsy. Chatty Cathy was cool - you pulled a string and she would talk. lol, I don’t remember what she said but I really loved playing with her.
Kissy looked like a toddler baby and wore what we called a sun suit. It had a red and white checked top with matching bloomers. When you pulled her arms together, her lips would pucker and make a “kissy” sound.
I also had Betsy Wetsy - you gave her a bottle of water and then changed her diaper. Back then we thought that was a grand thing!
I do remember having one of the first Barbie Dolls. I had something I think was called Barbie’s Fashion Show - it was a kind of stage. One of the last dolls of this type I played with was her friend Francie. She was the first doll with bendable legs!
Gaylord, the walking dog was wonderful! He was a large, plastic bloodhound with felt ears. He walked, barked and would pick up a bone. You could even put his leash on and take him for a walk. I didn’t have a real dog at the time and I loved him so much!!
There was a cartoon called the Beanie and Cecil show. Beanie was a little boy and Cecil was the Seasick Sea Serpent. They would go on detective type adventures and dress up in disguises. It was mid 1960 and Santa brought a Cecil stuffed animal complete with different costumes!!
There were other great toys of my childhood - a big metal top that you had to pump up and hummed when it spun around, jacks, silly putty, and slinky, “the world most wonderful” toy.
What were your favorite toys from Christmas past?
