It’s funny how you learn things and how things change.
Take for instance Pluto. The “scientists” now are saying that Pluto is not a planet. Oh yeah? Pluto is too a planet! Just ask any school kid and they will recite - My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas. It’s the planet roll call: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
When I was homeschooling my 2 boys I taught them the names of Great Lakes by the song, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I guess now I will have to worry that some scientist will say that one of those really isn’t a “great” lake for some stupid reason.
These scientists love to make wild claims and try to make a theory a fact. Like the one about how they can tell what a planet is composed of by it’s color. B.S. They have never been there and it could be that there are other things in the universe that are red, yellow or blue that haven’t been discovered yet. But to hear them tell it - it is fact.
And global warming. Now it is all in the news that we are going to burn up. I say B.S. to that too. You see, I have lived long enough to remember when they were saying just the opposite - that we were all going to freeze with global cooling. Come on guys, you can’t have it both ways. We all even gave up our hairspray for it! (and that was when we had those hairdos that needed it)
I saw a program the other day where they are trying to prove that the Loch Ness Monster does not exist. Durn it, leave Nessie alone. Is nothing sacred? We need to have things like that in our lives. Things that maybe can’t be proven but we kinda want to believe it is there. A faith in something wonderful.
You can read where huge grants are given to scientists to find out why a bull frog croaks when it rains. Who cares? Is it going to change the world? Couldn’t the money be used for something more productive?
I am tired of scientists. In my world there is a Nessie and a planet Pluto and the earth heating and cooling is just nature and the way things have always been - not some global catastrophe. Frankly I wish the scientists would just give it a rest with all their theories on what is and what isn’t!
Why don’t they put their efforts into something good - something that will help us. You know, like Tang, lol. Use your science to find cures to heal and quit worrying about why a bullfrog croaks at night!
hums to herself….
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee…
Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings
In the ruins of her ice water mansion
Old Michigan steams like a young man’s dreams,
The islands and bays are for sportsmen.
And farther below Lake Ontario
Takes in what Lake Erie can send her
And the iron boats go as the mariners all know
With the gales of November remembered.

Random Thoughts….
It has been so hot and humid here - just miserable. So it was a surprise to see a flash of bright orange in the grass. I am calling it the first leaf of Fall. I guess the trees are like me - hopeful for some cooler weather.
The dogs have been determined to get out of the fence. One goes over and one goes under. So the last 2 days we have been putting up a hot wire. I really hate doing it but I don’t want them to get hurt running loose.
My oldest son made me sad. He will be 21 in November and of course thinks he is grown. To me he is still my kid and will always be. He went to the Doctor today and when I asked if everything was ok - I was told it was private. None of my business. OK, I changed your sh!tty diapers, stayed up all night with you when you were sick, took stuff off you when you were a teen and now it is none of my business. I do understand but it still hurts….
We have also been going through my in-laws property. Sorting through boxes of junk because there might be an important paper mixed in. (and there has been) There are 3 “storage buildings” on the property full of stuff - the good mixed in with junk. They never threw anything away, ’nuff said. I gave myself the job of making sure each grandchild got a box of mementos. (because no one else in the family seemed to think that was important) Every weekend for a month now we have worked. It would be nice if the other 2 brothers would help but that hasn’t happened. The one appearance that they made was brief and not much was accomplished. I told my hubby that after this weekend, I am done.
I am just so done… Calgon take me away!! I wish I could win the lottery. Not to get rich. I would be happy to have enough money to finish all the unfinished projects around here. (and be able to start the ones that need doing) And if there was just a little left over for me to get away, I would be thrilled!
I keep thinking about that TV show - While You Were Out. You go away for a nice relaxing weekend and when you come home, someone has fixed things for you. That would be so nice!!
Like the tree with the first glimpse of fall color, I am ready for some relief.
Do you remember the old diners with their stainless steel exteriors and brightly colored vinyl cushions on the bar stools and booths? These were small places where the waitress knew you by name and greeted you with a cup of hot coffee in a white mug.
It was almost a given that you would order a piece of pie to go with your coffee. And there on the counter to tempt you was the glass pie rack filled with home style pies - blueberry, apple, lemon meringue, coconut creme, etc… And you got a big slice too!
If you sat long enough, someone you knew would drift in. Some were old friends and some you just knew from the diner. People from another booth would join in on your conversation or wave a greeting to someone newly arrived. It didn’t matter, at those old diners everyone was family.
With their simple menus, the daily special and friendly conversation, the diners of old had a certain charm not often found in today’s coffee shops. So, let’s have another cup of coffee, let’s have another piece of pie…
